LEARNING TO LOVE
“If one part (of the body) hurts, every other part is involved in the hurt…If one part flourishes, every other part enters into the exuberance.” – 1 Cor 12:26
Territorial Director of Special Needs
Nancy Helms (Major)
I am a mother of 4 and a grandmother of 4. As a solider in God’s army and an officer in The Salvation Army, I have a responsibility to help others (all others) be transformed into the image of Christ – for God’s glory, and for their abundance.
My second child, Cameron, was born with multiple disabilities. My journey with him has been rich and has motivated me to see that God’s image of perfection is different than the world’s image of perfection, and that every person in God’s kingdom is whole (spirit, soul and body) and needs to have a place at the table.
As the Disabilities and Ministry Representative in the Western Territory, it is my prayer and hope that others will come to understand the value of all individuals and seek to find ways to include them at the table – in every facet of ministry The Salvation Army offers. We have been blessed with abundant resources, and with those resources comes great responsibility to invest in the lives of those living in and outside the margins of society and the Church.
I still have much to learn and look forward to learning and growing with you. I am always available for questions and assistance. I might not have all the answers, but I do promise to research the unknown and come up with solutions, when possible.
